Alberta Hutchinson has been an artist for many years, and publishes coloring books through Dover, as well as her own imprint (Hand Made Books.) She doesn’t use or own a computer, so we had to send the interview questions to a friend’s email account. Alberta then wrote out her answers and mailed them to Dover, where they were transcribed back into the computer so I could get them in email! Where there’s a will, there’s a way! LOL

As my Facebook group has been growing, a lot of new members introduce themselves with the question “What should I use to color with?” The short answer, of course, is “Whatever you like best!” That doesn’t really help answer the question though, so I thought I’d talk a bit about the characteristics of the different types of coloring media. It has been very interesting doing this comparison and I have had some surprising results. While we tend to lump all colored pencils into the same basket, please note that these pencils are technically different mediums. The Spectrum Noir Premium pencils have an oil-based core, while the Prismacolor Premier are wax-based. Thus, they will each have areas where they excel based on the medium. (more…)
