When I was 13, my Mom took my brother and I on a trip to Italy. Her parents are from Italy, so it was a homecoming of sorts as well as a vacation. Grandma was from a small village on the east coast, and Grandpa was from a town in the “heel of the boot” i southern Italy. We joined a traditional tour, but we would take side trips to visit the towns where my grandparents grew up. It was the trip of a lifetime, and thankfully I was old enough to remember most of it, starting with the tour of Rome on cobblestone streets wearing heels! (In our attempt to pack light, I managed to forget to pack my gym shoes. Thankfully, we managed to buy a pair of Italian sneakers after the first day!) Sadly, our visit wasn’t timed to be there during Carnevale, one of the sections in this book of illustrations. I would have loved to see that!! But we did see a lot of beautiful architecture, historical landmarks, and other Italian marvels in various cities across the country. I even met some distant cousins who still lived there.
We also saw a whole photobook of gorgeous scenery. The tour sent us all over the country via train. If you ever visit a country with lots of natural beauty, I highly recommend a train tour. No worrying about driving or traffic, and slow enough to enjoy the country you travel through. And to view the undersea beauty, you should try scuba diving. We didn’t do any scuba diving in Italy, but I’ve done it other places, and it’s amazing. While you are planning your next trip to another country, you can enjoy coloring designs from the beautiful world of Italy in this book.
